FITNESS/WELLNESS

MEMBERS: WALK THE INDOOR TRACK at the Center Fitness Club!

Fee: $38/year
For Mallinckrodt Center members only: purchase a Center Fitness Club Walking Track Membership for only $38 per year! Walk indoors this spring at Center Fitness Club, located on the 2nd floor of the Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Road in Wilmette. Call Mallinckrodt for more information about this fabulous benefit for members.

Warm up to lively music followed by an all over, full-body workout to improve strength, balance and posture using light weights and resistance bands. Instructor on Mondays: Ali Margolis; on Thursdays: KC Bleuher. Virtual Option Available. Monday or Thursday mornings

Learn a basic form of Tai Chi and other techniques designed to energize the body, reduce and manage stress, improve balance, coordination and flexibility. The regular practice of this system of movements can facilitate harmonious energy flow throughout the body, enhancing one’s physical and emotional well-being. Instructor: Evelyn Thompson. In this chair-based class we use hand weights, bands and a Pilates ball to help build core, upper and lower body strength. There is a chair-based cardio warm up and we finish with a 10-minute stretch. Instructor: KC Bleuher. Virtual option available. Monday or Wednesday afternoons, or Friday mornings
Age 21 & up

Use balance, core, light weights and low-impact cardio to increase core strength, flexibility, range of motion and give your heart rate a boost. Instructor: KC Bleuher. Late Tuesday mornings

Stretch and strengthen the muscles of your core, known as the “powerhouse.” This class is done on the floor, so make sure you have a yoga mat. Virtual option available. Instructor: KC Bleuher. Wednesday mornings

BeMoved is a fun and easy-to-follow dance fitness class. Get a full body workout that is gentle and beginner-friendly! Instructor: Joanie Bayhack. Thursday mornings

Zumba is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance, performed primarily to Latin American dance music. Come dance your way to fitness with instructor Ruben Zapata! Friday mornings

This class covers a variety of standing and chair yoga poses, as well as some mat options. Class will be modified for those unable, or who would not like to, go to the floor for mat work. We work on balance, strengthening your core and increasing your flexibility. We offer a variety of stretching in the chair as well as standing, then mat stretching at the end. Learn to take stunning photos with your digital camera or even just your cell phone! We’ll cover the basic concepts of digital photography. Each week will focus on a different topic including exposure control, light, composition, and in the end putting it all together to tell your story. Join our instructor, Alan Golden, a talented local photographer who is excited to share his passion for photography with you. Wednesday evenings

Navigate techniques, materials, color, drawing and inspiration to paint in the medium of watercolor. Students at all levels will have fun creating satisfying projects in watercolor and building their skills. Our instructor, Nancy Rose, studied at the American Academy of Art and the Evanston Art Center. She has been painting in watercolor for decades, and has been teaching private clients for many years. Join us in this relaxed, supportive setting, and grow together. Please ask for a supply list at time of registration. There will be one week off in the month of May, dates TBA. Monday afternoons

Everybody draws! Learn–or relearn–drawing fundamentals in this low pressure class for adults. We will explore a variety of materials and approaches to drawing. Whatever your level of experience, learn and practice perspective, proportions, shading and line in a supportive and fun group setting. Supply kits can be provided for a nominal extra fee. Learn the basics or sharpen your skills in American Mahjongg, a game played by four people with unique tiles. A game of skill, strategy and calculation with a degree of chance, the object of the game is to make a hand with tiles, called a Mahjongg. Join the Center’s friendly, active group on Friday mornings. Join us as we welcome Bob Zeni, the Chicago Tomato Man, certified master gardener. He will go over tomato growing tips and discuss how to get the BEST tasting tomatoes out of your garden this summer. He grows 120 varieties of tomatoes that range in color, shapes, size and flavor. After his presentation, he will open the floor up for Q and A. This is a free session, but please RSVP to reserve a space.

The Mallinckrodt Community Center is hosting an Artist Reception presented by Students of the Center’s Watercolor Class and teacher Nancy Rose. Come talk with the artists, view their work, enjoy refreshments and even sample a bit of watercolor painting yourself.

He has a carefree, fun-loving attitude on stage, but what really sets him apart is his full-throated, robust baritone voice. In this variety show he will also cover songs made famous by legendary artists like Tom Jones, Barry Manilow, Elvis and many others. Lunch will include White Fence Farm’s famous chicken entree, which also includes several delicious sides, and a beverage. Lunch, live entertainment and transportation included.

WOMEN OF NOTE PERFORMANCE “Songs of Sunshine and Love”

Women of Note, a popular non-profit chorus, will welcome spring 2023 with their free concert, “Songs of Sunshine and Love.” The lively, upbeat show features such favorites as “The Sunny Side of the Street,” “Embraceable You,” “The Glory of Love,” and “It Don’t mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing,” among others. The Rules of the Road Review Course is designed to give drivers – especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities – the knowledge and confidence needed to renew or obtain a driver’s license. The review course combines an explanation of the driving exam with a practice written exam. This class is free of charge, but you must register in advance; please register online (click on the title link) or call the Mallinckrodt Front Desk at 847/256-9623.
